Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after an incident that ended in one death and an officer-involved shooting.

According to the release, the incident happened in the 3800 block of West Main Street in Mahoning Township, Lawrence County around 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

Reports say troopers and several local police departments responded to the scene and found 34-year-old Christopher Rush of New Castle armed with a knife. It was originally unclear what instrument Rush used, but police have now determined it was a knife. They did not clarify what kind.

State Police say Rush stabbed several victims and assaulted a Mahoning Township police officer before being shot by another officer from Union Township PD. 

Rush was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four people were injured in the stabbing. Two men aged 61 and 37 were from Mahoning County while another victim is listed as a 15-year-old male. The injured police officer is a 24-year-old and their identity has not been released. 

State Police also say, the 15-year-old male was released from the hospital on Sunday and is recovering at home. The other two victims suffered severe injuries but have been released and are also recovering. The injured police officer was released from the UPMC Jameson hospital on Saturday night.

Officers do not believe Rush and the victims were related in any way. They also do not understand a clear motive to Rush's actions at this time. There is no evidence he was impaired, but police are awaiting a toxicology report.

Officials are continue to interview witnesses by looking through body camera footage for moments of the shooting. Not all officers wore body cams, while others did. They have yet to interview officers involved in the shooting.

Pennsylvania State Police New Castle's Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating the case.
