STRUTHERS, Ohio - A Struthers family wants to thank their community police officers and fire department for making their little girl smile.
On Sunday, 12 year-old Aubrey Taylor was not able to attend the annual Down Syndrome Association of the Valley Buddy Walk, which helps raise awareness and money to support those with Down Syndrome.
Aubrey's mother, Roxanne Taylor, tells 21 News this was only the second year their daughter was unable to attend the event.
So, instead Roxanne posted on social media inviting friends and family of Aubrey to stop by their home and take pictures with their team sign, which she hung between two trees in their yard.
Both Roxanne and Aubrey were surprised when members of the Struther's Fire Department showed up, and then later the Struthers Police Department.
The firefighters not only posed for pictures with Aubrey, who has Down Syndrome, but also let her get in the captain's chair of the fire truck, honk the horn, and even played jump rope with the 12 year-old.
Roxanne wants to thank these first responders and said "there is so much bad news in the world today, and there are good people out there." She emphasized that these first responders help their community every day, even in the smallest ways like making their little girl smile.
