NHTSA: Nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly

Nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly, which means your child could be at risk. This is according to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which reminds parents and caregivers that Saturday, September 25th is "National Seat Check Saturday."
This is a great time to check your child's car seat - making sure your child is in the right type of seat, that it’s properly installed, properly used and that it’s registered with its manufacturer to ensure families receive important safety updates.
According to the NHTSA, when installed correctly, car seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury in a crash by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers.
But, the NHTSA says many parents install their child seats incorrectly.
The NHTSA says 608 children 12 and younger were killed in traffic crashes in 2019 and that every 25 seconds a child 14 and younger is involved in a crash while riding in a passenger vehicle.
The NHTSA also reminds caregivers, that older kids need to be in the right seat.
Many kids 8 to 12 years old still need to use a booster seat.
