YOUNGSTOWN - After a month of seeing an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases among the university community, Youngstown State University recorded a decline during the most recent week.

According to the YSU COVID-19 Dashboard, the university reported a total of 33 people testing positive during the week from September 19, 2021, to September 25, 2021. That total includes 2 employees, 1 student who lives on campus, and 30 students who live off-campus.

Last week’s 33 cases is a decline from the 54 cases from the week before, which was the third-highest number recorded since the university began keeping track of positive COVID tests more than a year ago.

Three weeks ago, there were 24 cases; four weeks ago, 27 cases; and five weeks ago 15 cases.

During the week of December 5, 2020, there were 67 confirmed cases.  In mid-November of last year, there were 60 cases.

Of the 23 people who voluntarily submitted to the university’s asymptomatic surveillance tests last week, none tested positive.

Most cases among students involve those who live off-campus.

YSU has an indoor mask mandate but does not mandate vaccines.
