Efforts to increase vaccination rates in Ohio have led health officials down a similar path to that of Governor Mike DeWine.

Instead of a Vax-A-Million opportunity, this time we're looking at a Vax-2-School program for people between the ages of 12 and 25.

"Right now, about 46 percent of Ohioans in the 12-25 age bracket, have started the vaccination process," said Chief Medical Officer of the Ohio Department of Health, Bruce Vanderhoff. "But by comparison, 84 percent of those 65 and older have started the process. This is the time for younger Ohioans to get the vax," he said.

The prizes include 150 ten-thousand dollar scholarships and five $100,000 dollar grand prize scholarships.

Vanderhoff says the work to get young people vaccinated is not done.

"We have seen far too many young Ohioans become very seriously ill from COVID-19. Sadly, we have continued to see instances where these young people who should not die have died," Vanderhoff said.

Beginning Monday, you can enter the drawing on coronavirus.ohio.gov or by calling 1-833-4-ASK-ODH.

There's no word yet on a deadline or when, specifically, the drawings will begin but Vanderhoff says winners will be announced no later than the end of this year.
