A Warren woman is charged with five counts of child endangering after police say her family had to flee a fire that began in a marijuana-growing operation in their home.

Firefighters were called to the 1300 block of Mahoning Avenue just before 5 a.m. Monday where they found a couple and five children outside the home.

Inside the home authorities say they found several tents in the basement and an upstairs bedroom used to grow and dry marijuana plants.

They also found bags of mushrooms, Petri dishes, grow lights, a grown fan, as well as pot plants.

An investigator told police that the fire started in a gas line in the basement growing operation.

Police charged 32, year-old Ashley Kellar with five counts of child endangering.  Her husband, who was taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center for breathing problems, could also face charges, according to the report.

The five children, all girls ages two through 11, were turned over to the care of a relative.

Kellar is scheduled for video arraignment in Warren Municipal Court on Tuesday.
