Niles woman charged with child endangering, 20 cats removed from home
A 39-year-old Niles woman was was charged and given a summons for endangering children, including an 18-month-old child after approximately twenty cats and a dog were removed from her home on Friday.
Niles Police arrived at Ryan Williams home on Vienna Avenue to conduct a wellness check on a child after the Animal Welfare League had received complaints of multiple cats in the home.
There was a heavy smell of cat urine plus multiple cats inside and outside on the home's porch, according to the police report.
The Animal Welfare League told Niles Police that a staircase in the home was nearly impassable and that the animals had to be removed because of the poor conditions.
Williams told the police the infant had been living in the house since birth. She said that a twelve-year-old child also lived in the home.
She told officers she was trying to move her and the children from the residence to a relative's home.
Police say a child services caseworker was sent to investigate and the children were given to stay with a relative.
