For the last several years, the Gottschalk family of Girard has been putting on their Halloween display to show their love for the holiday and for the community to enjoy.

"Our decorations are a piece of us," said Kevin Gottschalk. "It's weird to say, I know it's Halloween and stuff but this is like, who we are," he said.

However, when someone stole one of their zombie horses Sunday night, the Gottschalk's decided to put away their most eye-catching figures for fear that another would go missing.

"It takes me weeks to get it all set up and prepared and to have to just rip it all down, just I dont know, it's something I never thought we'd have to do," said Gottschalk. "For us, those were our focal points, those were the first thing we bought. They were around 475 dollars each and I had to order them. They were a Home Depot special, I ordered one from California and one from Nevada, so we can't even replace it," he said.

Gottschalk tells 21 News he was shocked that they didn't hear any noise when one of the horses was taken because they have dogs and the prop was staked to the ground.

He says support from the community, though, has been overwhelming.

"I put this on the Girard website and I can't believe the people that are getting back to us on how sorry they are, they'll keep an eye out, see if they see anything I mean it's actually kind of like humbling to find out how many people knew about our display," said Gottschalk.

Gottschalk filed a police report with the Girard Police Department. The report says a neighbor found a metal stake in her driveway early Sunday morning and remembered seeing a vehicle use her driveway to turn around. The type of vehicle it was has not been verified.

"It almost makes you feel violated just because it is your property, it's your yard, you set it up for the community and to have somebody come onto your property and take something that means so much to everybody, it makes you almost feel violated," Gottschalk said.

The family says they will not press any charges and they just want their horse back, no questions asked.
