The doors to the Torch Bar and Grill are open once again after a temporary shut down by the past owner and a run-in with gun violence earlier this year.

Now the new owners, Steve and Joanne Coley, plan to attract a different kind of crowd to the bar with a new image and a new name, "The Torch."

In an effort to keep out the criminal element, the Coley's are increasing security measures.

"We have two metal detectors, they're wands, that we can check each patron as they come in," said Joanne. "We'll have one set up at our main door and one set up at our venue hall. So it'll make sure no one is trying to slip anything passed us," she said.

The owners tell 21 News their plan is to stand firm on the boundaries of the bar. They will only allow access to the bar to people ages 24 and up who are willing to comply with the rules.

"The crowd that used to be in here thought it was OK to smoke in a bar," said Steve. "You follow the laws now in this bar so, it's changing a lot of the people that wanna come in here," he said.

With the bar's reputation, the Coley's may face some challenges attracting clientele but believe they'll be able to make it work.

"Once we get people come down, get their friends to come down if we just keep giving good service and providing a safe fun environment, eventually the customers will come," said Steve. "If you want to come out and enjoy your time, enjoy other people having a good time, this is the place to come. And if you're looking to cause problems, everybody's gonna turn you around at the door," he said.

As they prepare for their Halloween Bash that will be at 7 p.m. at the Torch bar on October 31st, the Coley's hope to put bar violence to rest for good.
