New Castle man convicted of international drug conspiracy

PITTSBURGH - A New Castle man awaits sentencing after being convicted for his part in an international cocaine and fentanyl trafficking conspiracy.
Darnell Latham, 52, pled guilty in federal court to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine.
Latham is one of thirteen defendants charged in the investigation which covered a period stretching from March of 2019 through September of 2020.
In 2019, the Drug Enforcement Administration began investigating a cocaine and fentanyl trafficking organization that operated throughout the United States, including Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico.
From late 2019 and continuing through August of 2020, the DEA ran wiretaps on members of the organization, including Latham who was recorded in discussions about purchasing, distributing, and cutting cocaine.
Agents also seized cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, ecstasy, marijuana, firearms, and cash from members of the organization.
When Latham is sentenced in February, he could face up to 30 years in prison, a fine of $2 million or both.
