Ohio Department of Health releases guidelines for COVID booster dose

Ohio & Mahoning Valley - The Ohio Department of Health has released guidance on COVID-19 booster doses for vaccine providers and those eligible for the booster.
Boosters for Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson are now available for eligible individuals 18 and up.
All recipients of the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine are authorized to get a booster at least 2 months after the initial dose.
Those who received a two dose mRNA shot such as Pfizer or Moderna at least six months ago, and meet one of the following criteria are eligible:
• 65 years and older.
• Age 18 and older who live in long-term care settings.
• Age 18 and older who have underlying medical conditions.
• Age 18 and older who work or live in high-risk settings.
ODH does not recommend anyone who receives a mRNA vaccine (Moderna or Pfizer) to exceed three total doses.
Mixing and matching vaccines is approved for booster doses. Those eligible for any booster shot may choose which vaccine the receive as a booster dose. This applies for booster doses only, and the primary vaccination series should be completed using the same product.
Booster doses for any vaccine have not yet been authorized for those under the age of 18.
