Mahoning Valley - Kids in Hubbard like kids and teens across the country are excited about Trick or Treat.

They give reasons as getting free candy and being able to dress up as different characters in movies, or monsters.

But before your kids and teens go door to door, you will want to review some safety precautions.

To help avoid scary accidents, your kids must be visible and use extra caution crossing streets and in areas without sidewalks.

The Trumbull  Sheriff's Office tells us the number one Halloween hazard is being struck and killed by a car.

"Make sure the area is well lit if they're not going to your local store buy some glow sticks or reflective clothing," said Trumbull Sheriff's Captain Tony Villanueva.

Kids tell us they've been warned to stay with your family and don't wander off.

Tracking apps such as Life360, and Geolocation on a smartphone can provide real-time information on where their kids and teens are. But phones can get lost or be taken away, so parents may want to go with their kids.

Parents can also find out what houses to avoid, by go to a website called familywatchdog.us, entering an address their kids are trick or treating on, scrolling down and when you click on the red pins a picture of a registered sex offender comes up, with his or her address and other information.

Parents can also find sex offender information on the Ohio Attorney General's or local Sheriff's websites.

Law enforcement says it's a good idea to check the candy before their kids eat any.

Ohioans are being warned some potentially dangerous cannabis edibles are packaged similarly to some major brands of candy and snacks.

Capt. Villanueva emphasized, "If there is any question to it I think it should be tossed out, it should just be discarded."
