POLAND, Ohio -  As it has done for the past 25-years, Pioneer Trails Tree Farm is taking part in a project to ship some holiday spirit to U.S. Troops overseas.

Every year, Pioneer Trails and other tree farms belonging to the Ohio Christmas Tree Association donate to Operation Evergreen, paying the cost of the tree and shipping.

“Local Girl Scout Troops 80170 and 80051 will help us cut the trees, making this event even more special,” said Pioneer Trails owner Mary Jan Perdulla.

Pioneer will donate 5 trees this season. Other groups will assist with ornament packing including local Veterans and volunteers.

Girl Scouts, students from Boardman Center Intermediate School, as well as residents of the Blackburn Home in Poland, have made ornaments and written letters that will accompany the trees.

The farm is covering the cost of the trees.

To pay the approximately $160 it costs to ship one tree, a total of $16,000 to ship all 100 trees from Ohio, the tree association has started a Go Fund Me account, where the community can help raise money to ship the trees.

Pioneer Trails Tree Farm invites the media and community to join us for the tree cutting for Operation Evergreen. The event is on Saturday, November 6 from 9 am-10:30 am.

Pioneer Trails Tree Farm is located at 4222 Center Rd. Poland.
