Youngstown, Lordstown entities among recipients of air quality improvement grant funds
Two local entities are among seven recipients of funds from a $7.5 million grant announced by Ohio Governor, Mike DeWine and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Director, Laurie Stevenson for air quality improvement.
Metalico Youngstown Incorporated, along with Spirongo Lordstown LLC will receive funding from this grant.
Metalico Youngstown will be receiving two grants. One will provide $102,534 for 25% of the cost to replace one 1953 diesel-powered freight switcher locomotive with one new diesel-powered freight switcher.
Metalico's second grant will provide $375,908 for 75% of the cost to replace one 1998 diesel-powered material handler with one new all-electric model.
Spirongo Lordstown will be receiving on $2.3 million grant for 69% of the cost to replace two 1952 and 1956 diesel-powered freight switcher locomotives with two new all-electric freight models.
The organizations and businesses receiving grants were selected by a committee of Ohio EPA and Ohio Department of Transportation representatives.
