It's beginning to look like Christmas in Cortland.

The city's downtown Christmas tree is now on display on W. Main Street.

The tree was transported on Tuesday from a home on Old Oak Drive. The tree was donated by Dee and Tim Aston.

Organizers say, Bob's Tree Service cut down the tree and volunteered their time to then place it downtown. The Cortland Service Department helped transported the tree and secure the space.

The tree is not yet decorated, but will be soon and will then come to life on Saturday, November 27th during the City's Christmas Tree Lighting event.

The event includes:

  •  3pm- 7pm: Horse-drawn carriage rides. Rides are free and sponsored by Cortland Rotary and Cortland Bank.
  • 4pm-6pm - Visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The jolly couple will arrive by horse-drawn carriage at 4pm and will visit with kids until 6pm. Be sure to bring your cameras/phones to take pictures!
  • 6pm - The official Tree Lighting in the courtyard, across from Cortland Bank. Organizers invite families to come early and bring an ornament to hang on the Community Christmas Tree to help decorate it throughout the day.
  • Cortland Lions Club will give out complimentary hot cocoa and assorted cookies sponsored by Just Pizzelles and Sparkle Market
  • Students of the Lakeview High School choir/band will lead the visitors in caroling.
