Southern Park Mall kicks off holiday season with Santa parade, ice rink grand opening
The Southern Park mall is getting ready to get into the holiday spirit on Saturday, Nov. 20 with a parade featuring Santa Claus, as well as the grand opening of a new ice skating rink.
The festivities start at 11:00 a.m. as Santa arrives at DeBartolo Commons and join Boardman Trustees in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of The Rink.
After the ceremony, guests are invited to join the parade as Santa marches over to his house in Center Court alongside his elves, the Boardman High School Marching Band, the Grinch and local high school mascots including the Boardman Spartan, Canfield Cardinal, Hubbard Eagle, Jackson-Milton Blue Jay, South Range Raider and Struthers Wildcat.
In addition, guests can enjoy horse drawn sleigh rides at DeBartolo commons from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Food trucks including Auntie Anne's Pretzels and OH Donut among others will also be onsite offering warm snacks and hot chocolate for purchase.
Starting at 12:00 p.m. Santa will be at his house in Center Court visiting children and families, listening to children's Christmas wishes and taking pictures.
The Rink will be open to the public from Saturday, Nov. 20 to Sunday, Jan. 2. The cost to skate is $10 for adults and $8 for kids. Guests can bring their own skates or rent for $3.
In addition to open skate, The Rink will also be hosting special events throughout the season.
The Rink is sponsored locally by Youngstown Clothing Co. and Akron Children's Hospital.
