East Liverpool board member honored with esteemed education award

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A longtime East Liverpool City Schools board member has been honored with the Ohio School Board Association's (OSBA) most esteemed award.
Board member, Larry Walton was recognized as a 2021 All-Ohio School Board member on Sunday, Nov. 7 during the OSBA Capital Conference and Trade Show.
Each year, OSBA names one board of education member from each of its five regions. The award recognizes outstanding service to public education and represents the dedication shown by thousands of board members across Ohio.
Walton has been selected to represent the Northeast Ohio region this year. Walton is in his 16th year on the East Liverpool City Schools board.
"A group of people from the district approached me to run for the board of education so I did. I won. That was 16 years ago, and I was recently reelected to another four year term," Walton said.
Walton added that he is most proud of "working on free lunches for district students in kindergarten through seventh grade, which took less than a year to implement" and "working with fellow board members to improve our district."
