Warren City Council to consider approval of second opioid settlement Thursday afternoon

WARREN, Ohio - Warren City Council will be holding a special meeting Thursday at 3:00 p.m. with the main item on the agenda being considering the approval of a second Opioid settlement with Janssen and Johnson & Johnson.
According to Warren City Law Director, Enzo Cantalamessa, if the settlement is approved, the city will receive funding for opioid remediation efforts.
Cantalamessa tells 21 News that if approved, the inital payment will be $114,582.48, which is 70% of the total funding. Once all benchmarks are achieved, the city will receive the remainder of the funding totaling at $163,689.25.
At least 70% of the funds must be used for qualifying opioid remediation efforts including education, treatment and prevention. The other 30% will be paid over a period of 10 years for these efforts.
In order to receive the funding, the city must pass legislation for accepting it, which is due Friday. Cantalamessa is hopeful that the council will approve the settlement.
In addition, a second item on the agenda for the meeting is regarding an improvement to the water lines at the intersection of East Market St. and North Rd.
If the agreement to improve the water line is passed, the upgrade work will be done under the supervision of Trumbull County.
Once completed, the city will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the water line.
