The Salvation Army in Sharon went to work on Thanksgiving to help put together over 300 Thanksgiving meals to give to those in need.

The Classic Thanksgiving meal consisted of Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, cream of corn and the traditional Thanksgiving role.

Volunteers started to roll up to the store around 9:30 to gather the meals and deliver them across Sharon to senior citizens.

Captain Childs of the Salvation Army mentioned that they chose seniors because some couldn't get out to their families this Holiday season due to the pandemic and travel restrictions.

However, getting Volunteers turned out to be a challenge as just a week before, The Salvation Army only had five delivery drivers to deliver 300 meals.

After sending a call for help and having the community food house send out a mass email, over 30 Volunteers showed up to help deliver the food in under 30 minutes.

"It's Great to see that people will step up and help others that are hurting to those who are in need and to know when the call goes out, there are neighbors and friends out there that will rally around to help out," said Childs.

Next year the Salvation Army plans to make and deliver over 1,000 meals to the community and hope to have it in person again.
