Half-million dollar bond set for teen suspected of murdering Warren woman

WARREN, Ohio - Bond is set a half-million dollars for a seventeen-year-old boy accused of murdering an 89-year-old Warren woman.
Shamar Askew pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, improperly discharging a firearm into a residence, and tampering with evidence during his arraignment Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
Askew was indicted in a special session of the Trumbull County grand jury on Wednesday in connection with the death of Ruth Lewis, 89, on February 28.
Lewis was hit by gunfire while sitting in a living room on Starlite Avenue in Warren, where the family had gathered to plan the funeral of her son, who had recently died of a heart attack.
Police have said they don't believe Lewis was the intended target of the gunfire.
The next court hearing for Askew is scheduled for December 8.
