Supply chain issues have been sweeping the United States during the COVID-19 pandemic and the latest victim is auto parts.

King Collision normally works on about 70 cars at a time at their Boardman location, but their lot currently has twice as many cars at once. Some of these cars have been waiting for parts for as long as six months.

Mike Sicilian of King Collision in Boardman tells 21 News that that the newer your vehicle is, the harder it will be to find parts for it.

"Anything on the new cars right now is really hard because there are a limited amount coming out and being produced because of model changes. It's only the first year of production," Sicilian said.

Supply chain experts such as William Sawaya of Bowling Green University say car makers are less likely to make parts just for parts because they currently make more money off of making parts for new cars.

Sawaya says to expect the supply chain issues to continue until at least early 2022.

"These supply chains are global so it's going to be many months, maybe years before what we felt like was normal," Sawaya said.

Now that the winter weather is hitting, it's recommended that motorists drive extra carefully to avoid a long wait for auto parts.
