Ohio - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced $250 million in federal grant funding to law enforcement officials and first responders across the state. 

The bill will help first responders rebuild after the pandemic, and fight violent crime across the state. 

A portion of the grant funding will go towards supporting and retaining first responders, law enforcement, fire fighters and emergency personnel. 

$175 million will go towards state and local law enforcements across the state to attain resources and tools that are needed to help law enforcements fight crime in their area. 

A portion of the funds will also go towards wellness and mental health services for law enforcement. 

$75 million will go towards retention, recruitment and wellness support of Ohio's first responders. Services will be offered to first responders to help first responder programs to create wellness services to help first responders deal will trauma from working in the field. 

Money will also be allotted for recruitment and explore programs for youth in first responder programs, it is hoping to recruit first responders and usher in a new generation of first responders. 

Republican Representative Al Cutrona from Canfield sponsored the new bill, and is planning to use the funds to not only support and retain law enforcement and first responders, but to attract new responders to address staffing issues that have been effecting departments throughout the state. 

Cutrona also plans to use portions of the funds to address the drug and sex trafficking issues that affect Youngstown and the state. 

"This grant money is huge for Youngstown, to help fight crime and to create a strong law enforcement presence," says Cutrona.
