It was a very special night with the one and only Santa Claus at Firestone Park in Columbiana Wednesday evening.

The Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau put on the Joy of Christmas 2021 Santa's Special Night that was by-appointment-only for people with special needs.

"There's a need in our community to make things more inclusive and accessable," said Kathy Keaggy, Event Coordinator. "and too also make it easier for families with kiddos who have special needs."

A private, all-inclusive visit with 'Ol Saint Nick for kids with special needs allowed for a more peaceful, calm environment for kids to be able to spend time with Santa.

"It was kind of hard to go see Santa in a busy setting which is usually where you see Santa, like in the mall or in a larger type setting," Keaggy said. "and it's harder for people with special needs to be able to do that."

Dozens of kids were able to personally meet Santa after 35 families signed up for the event. Guests were encouraged to drive through the millions of lights at the park and even hang out with therapy dog, Mason.

"What we wanted to do was provide a safe environment for families to enjoy Santa," Keaggy said. "So they could have it as stress free as possible."
