MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is scheduled to make a stop in Trumbull County on Thursday to talk about funding from the third round of the Ohio BUILDS water infrastructure grant program.

DeWine will appear at the Weathersfield Township Administration building at 10:30 a.m. to discuss a $3 million grant to build an elevated water storage tank and booster pump station.

The project is designed to stabilize pressure and volume throughout the entire Mineral Ridge Public Water System which serves more than 2,600 people.

The water system is located on the side of a ridge with significant elevation changes. During high demand, water pressures at the higher elevations dip below 35 pounds per square inch and pressure and volume during fire flow is also inadequate at the higher elevations.

State officials say the project is necessary to prevent pressures from dropping, which increases the possibility of contaminants infiltrating the public water supply.

The project will also increase water flow during firefighting emergencies.

Sebring, another grant recipient, will receive a $330,000 to replace the ultraviolet disinfection equipment at the village’s wastewater treatment plant. The plant’s existing ultraviolet disinfection equipment has exceeded its useful life and has become cost-prohibitive for the village to maintain
