Mahoning County weather sirens fail test ahead of severe weather threat

MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - With potentially severe weather making its way through the Valley this weekend, the Mahoning County EMA is warning of a possible failure of the Weather Alerting System.
The sirens previously failed during the last tornado warning that occurred in October.
According to the release, Mahoning County's system was repaired and fully operational following the failure.
However, the sirens failed this week during a scheduled test.
Severe weather is possible Friday night and Saturday with forecasts calling for rain chances and wind gusts that could reach between 45-50 mph.
Mahoning County EMA is asking residents to keep an eye on the weather. They say efforts are being made to remedy the immediate problems with the emergency system.
A full reorganization of the warning system is in place with full implementation slated for the first of the year.
