Illinois man identified as victim in fatal pedestrian crash at Hubbard truck stop
Hubbard Township Police have identified the victim of a fatal semi vs. pedestrian crash at a Hubbard truck stop on Tuesday morning.
Police tell 21 News the victim was identified as Wieslaw M. Wieczorek (65) of Palatine Illinois.
A semi-truck hit and killed Wieczorek at Love's Travel Center at 2586 North Main St. in Hubbard around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday.
The semi-truck driver called 911 when he realized he had hit someone at a fuel island.
The driver described the Wieczorek as a white male who was bleeding from his nose and head.
The coroner, Hubbard Township Police and Fire Departments and State Troopers were on the scene.
"It was more than likely an accident," said Hubbard Township Police Patrolman Christopher Gifford. "But I mean, obviously we're gonna look at all the avenues," he said.
Investigators have discovered that both the driver and the Wieczorek were from out of state and they believe Wieczorek was also a truck driver.
Wieczorek's body was taken from the scene and transported to a morgue in Trumbull county.
The driver is being questioned by police. No charges have been filed as of yet but Gifford tells 21 News they're going to complete the investigation first and then go from there.
21 News will have more information as more details unfold.
