NILES, Ohio - A Youngstown man faces charges of kidnapping and burglary after allegedly abducting his 4-month-old son from a home in Niles early Wednesday.

Police say Rayvon Parker, who doesn’t have custody of the infant, went to the home of the baby’s grandmother at around 1 a.m. and took the child.

The grandmother told police that she believed Parker is usually armed and was afraid that he would shoot her.

Using a description of Parker’s car and cell phone information, police called Parker, who told police that his son may be injured.

When Parker refused to say where he was, an Amber Alert was issued for the child.

About five hours after the infant was taken, Youngstown Police found Parker and the missing child.

Niles police say these kinds of situations derive from custody battles.

"A lot of times, custody is in dispute and one party thinks that they should just go and take the child and that would be the resolution of it," said Niles Police Dpeartment Detective Captain John Marshall. "Unfortunately, there's no legal custody established, the mom is the sole custodian," he said.

Parker was arrested by officers from the Niles Police Department and taken back to Niles to appear in Municipal Court. He's being held on a half a million dollar bond.

Police say other charges may be pending.

The child, who is being returned to the mother, appears to be in good condition according to police.

Parker's mother told 21 News he was going over to check on the child and when he got there, the front door was unlocked. She says he took his son because there were no adults in the house, just two teenagers, and that he found the child about to fall off a bed.
