WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Sherrod Brown has announced on Wednesday that the U.S. Senate-passed FY 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) includes over $8.7 million for military construction projects at Camp Ravenna and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS).

The funding will be used to widen the assault runway in order to meet mission requirements. Senator Brown will continue to fight to ensure the funding is appropriated in the FY 22 appropriation process.

"Widening the runway at [YARS] is a crucial investment in the infrastructure to improve training and highlight how important the Mahoning Valley is to our national defense," Senator Brown said.

Brown has been a strong advocate for YARS in the past.

In 2020, Brown along with Senator Rob Portman introduced an amendment to the FY 2021 NDAA to require the Department of Defense to provide Congress with a report on the cost and benefits to maintaining a specific number of primary aircraft for each type of air force squadron, particularly those that fly special missions flown by Air Force Reserve units like the 910th at YARS.
