BOARDMAN, Ohio - A Boardman teen was arrested Sunday after police were advised of an incident in which he allegedly raped a woman with special needs in a home on Friendship Ave.

Police were alerted of the incident by a social worker at Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman after the 16-year-old suspect was taken into the hospital after allegedly making suicidal threats to his father.

Police say the suspect lives with his father, his father's live in girlfriend and her sister, the victim, who has special needs.

Upon arrival to the scene, the 53-year-old victim told police that the suspect had raped her Saturday, Dec. 11 when his father and his girlfriend left the house to go Christmas shopping.

Police say the victim told the suspect's father Sunday morning saying that immediately after he and his girlfriend left for Christmas shopping, the suspect had gone down into the basement with her as she was changing and asked if she wanted to have sex.

The suspect then allegedly penetrated the victim once and upon finishing told her not to tell anyone.

Police say after the suspect's father confronted him about the alleged incident, he threatened that he was going to kill himself.

Police say the suspect told hospital staff that he did not have any suicidal thoughts or intent to self harm and that he had just made those statements because he was caught.

After being discharged from the hospital, the suspect was arrested for rape and was transported to Boardman Police Department for booking.

The suspect is currently in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.
