Moderna's Chief Medical Officer says COVID vaccines could become yearly occurrence

As virus cases continue to surge, 21 News spoke with Moderna's Chief Medical Officer Paul Burton.
He says COVID is likely here to stay and boosters could very well become a regular practice.
"COVID like many of these kinds of viruses will become an endemic medical condition," Burton said. "It will just be there and we'll need to be protected from it. It seems most likely that people will need a yearly vaccination."
When it comes to how often a person should be getting boosters, Burton said the recommendation is still pending on the next round and the shots will likely be recommended based on how the virus evolves.
Currently, cases in Ohio are up as more than 10,000 were reported Friday afternoon. The statewide vaccination rate is 59.03% for Ohioans of all ages.
