Former Youngstown City Councilman, Board of Education member dies at 70

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Former Youngstown City Councilman and Board of Education member, Clarence Boles has died at age 70 Monday morning.
Boles was a former Youngstown City Councilman for the 5th Ward. He's been hospitalized for five days and released from St. Elizabeth's Hospital on Monday, Dec. 13. Boles also served on Youngstown's Board of Education, getting elected two decades ago.
Boles was also well-known as the managing editor and columnist for the Buckeye Review, where he served until his retirement in 2017. He was deeply immersed in local politics and history, and provided searing political commentary and analysis.
Buckeye Review publisher, Dr. Mike McNair says Boles was a compassionate supporter of all things that would advance the agenda for Black Americans.
"You could count on him to support candidates, and encourage younger politicians to seek the wisdom of and benefit from the experience of those who have paved the way," McNair said.
"Losing Clarence leaves a huge hole in the fabric of Youngstown and he will be be sorely missed," McNair continued.
Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as they are available.
