CAMPBELL, Ohio -  Police from two departments were called out early New Year’s Eve after Campbell Police say they found blood covering two people and several rooms of a home.

Responding to a reported burglar on Sanderson Avenue at around 2 a.m., officers say they found a door forced open and heard voices inside the home.

Inside they saw a 31-year-old woman with cuts on her face and blood covering her body.

A man who had locked himself in the bathroom told police that they would have to shoot him.

The Campbell officers called for an ambulance and assistance from Struthers Police.

As the ambulance took the woman to Mercy Hospital for treatment, her four children were turned over to a relative for temporary care.

When the other officers arrived, police forced the bathroom door open where they found 35-year-old Gary Ryan. His hand was bleeding, his pants were bloody, and a blood-covered handgun was on the sink.

According to the police report, Ryan said he didn’t mean to hurt the woman and had blacked out.

Ryan was also taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Police searched the rest of the home saying they found blood in the living room, a hallway, two bedrooms, and several walls.

Police later booked Ryan into the county jail on charges of felonious assault, burglary, a weapons violation, and violation of a protection order that the woman had obtained against him
