MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - The Salvation Army of Mahoning County missed its mark during its 2021 Red Kettle holiday campaign- but Major Paul Moore says, there's no need to worry yet.

This year's goal was somewhere between $150,000 and $200,000, but the campaign raised just $83,000 for 2021.

Despite modifications to last year's campaign, 2020 raised $105,000 for the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign is essential to helping put food on tables, provide free clothing, help the homeless, and kids at Christmas. Ninety percent of the money stays local, and helps local people.

Moore says this year's goal fell short due to do staffing issues, and illness within with their volunteers and staff.

"We did the best with what we could," said Moore.

However, Moore says the Salvation Army has received donations aside from the Red Kettle Campaign that will help make up for the discrepancy.

"We did get some other support," said Moore. "We are still getting checks in the mail so we will do the best we can with what we have."

The Salvation Army uses these funds to help the community throughout the year. For now, Moore says they're doing just fine.

"We have plenty food and plenty of resources for now, we don't know what tomorrow will bring. But for now we're okay," said Moore.

Despite a tough year for the campaign, Moore says he is thankful anyway.

"We can't be more thankful for the support we've gotten from this community."
