Nobody injured in Liberty plane crash, survivor speaks out
A small plane carrying three passengers crashed down in Liberty on Saturday afternoon.
A passenger involved in a plane crash that happened earlier this evening spoke with 21 News to detail the accident. Melissa Fike was riding as a passenger in the backseat of her stepfather's 172G Cessna plane when she claimed the engine began cutting in and out.
Fike said her stepfather Chris Tornello was flying the plane with her 8-year-old daughter sitting passenger in the front. The plane crashed into a tree while trying to land at Landsdowne Airport, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Tornello, Fike and her daughter were uninjured. The plane went down near Homestead Road.
OSHP continues to investigate and the FAA is expected to arrive at the scene on Monday.
Fike said her stepfather has been a pilot since 1981, and the plane was just recently inspected by a mechanic. Fike also told 21 News she believes her stepfather is an excellent pilot.
