HUBBARD TWP., Ohio - It's just a few weeks away from what will be the one year anniversary of the fire that devastated St. Patrick's Church in Hubbard.

It was January 18th when the fire broke out, leaving the parish with millions of dollars in damages.

Though no one was injured in the fire, there was extensive smoke and structural damage to the entire church.

The cause was deemed to be unknown, but is believed to have started in the basement.

In the year since, St. Patrick's has started the process of rebuilding the church, all the while holding masses inside the Parish Center.

Deacon John Bartos of St. Patrick Church says the Parish Center has been a blessing to the congregation.

Though the reconstruction process is slow due to supply chain and labor shortages, it is steadily masking progress. There is no reopening date set.

In commemoration of the day, St. Patrick's will hold a special candlelight processional on January 18th.

The processional will begin at 6 p.m. in front of the Church with prayer and song.

Following the processional will be a 6:30 p.m. mass in the Parish Center.

For those who would like to participate in the processional, but cannot walk or would like to stay out of the cold, the processional will be filmed and played inside the Parish Center

After a year of reconstruction, Deacon Bartos says that this is much more than just a processional- it's a testament to the grace of God.

"It's a celebration of everything God has done for us in the past year," said Deacon Bartos. "The blessings and graces we've received in the past year as a church community."

Amid reconstruction and setbacks, the ability to gather as a congregation in celebration of the Mass is a blessing itself.

"A church is much more than brick and mortar. A church is the people," said Deacon Bartos.
