A Sharon family is struggling after a tragic accident left a mother of three with life changing injuries.

33 year-old Stephanie Tubb was struck by a garbage truck while walking to work at about 4 a.m. Monday morning, near East State Street and North Oakland Avenue. Police are investigating the accident as the community rallies around the family.

Brenda Royer, the Director of Child Development Center at the Buhl Center, has been appointed family spokesperson.

Royer says Tubb has three children: 1, 3 and 11 years-old.

Royer spoke highly of Stephanie Tubb and her husband, Nate. She says the couple both work at the Sharon McDonald's. She says they would often times work separate shifts to help care for their children. She said Stephanie was a manager and their goal was to eventually work the same shift and to be home in the evenings as a family.

"Both her and her husband were so dedicated. They walked to work each day," said Royer.

Royer said the family does not own a vehicle.

Royer explains that as a result of the accident, Tubb had a portion of both legs amputated. Her right leg was amputated above the knee and her left leg was amputated below the knee. Royer says Tubb is alert and oriented, but may be facing more surgeries. She also suffered broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and sever lacerations to her face.

The brother of Stephanie Tubb, has set up a GoFundMe account. He writes on the page, "In one single miniscule moment in time, her life and family's lives were changed forever."

He also explains the moments and hours after learning the news.

"Stephanie was sedated during life flight and surgery and wasn't awakened until roughly 8hrs after the accident," he writes. "The dread of knowing she'd wake up to learn her legs are gone made the hours we waited to see her seem like an eternity."

In addition to medical bills, Tubb's brother says the family is currently unable to work.

Royer says the family will eventually need a handicapped accessible vehicle and home.

The Buhl Center is accepting donations for the family. They are also asking for items such as easy to prepare meals, disposable household items like paper plates, toilet paper and soap, as well as gift cards for gas and restaurants.
