Substitute teachers in Mahoning Co. receive pay raise

MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - Substitute teachers in some Mahoning County school districts are getting a pay raise.
The pay raise is for substitutes working through the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio's (ESCEO) substitute teacher consortium.
The raise increases their pay to $110 per day beginning Tuesday, January 18.
ESCEO substitutes serve the following districts:
- Austintown Local Schools
- Boardman Local Schools
- Campbell City Schools
- Canfield Local Schools
- Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio
- Mahoning County Career and Technical Center
- Poland Local Schools
- Struthers City Schools
A number of other school districts in Ohio have also increased their substitute teacher pay recently.
Our NBC affiliate WDTN reported Tuesday that Springboro Schools will increase substitute pay to $125 per day with long-term substitutes earning $190 per day.
Stark County area schools increased their pay for substitutes to $200 per day in October 2021 according to the Canton Repository.
Around the same time, The Columbus Dispatch reported that Columbus City Schools increased their pay to $126 per day.
