The Bunker: Ready for play
With the winter weather upon us and expected to be with us for at least another six weeks, golfers can keep up with their game at a new facility.
The Bunker at the Southern Park Mall is open and ready for play.
"Between our practice academy, we got a driving range, a chipping green, putting green back there," said Jonah Karzmar, who owns The Bunker. "Technology wise we have some hand held devices, g-c quants, but our main golf is the simulator. And we have 10 overhead simulators throughout the center."
You can tee them up, practice your putting or play any of the major courses on one of 10 simulators. The Bunker is open for all golfers.
"We've needed something indoors for golf for awhile now," karzmar added. "And I think the academy is where it started, the simulators were an add on to the academy, we need an indoor entertainment. I've always been a golfer, so I think: combine the two, and the simulators gives a little something for everybody to enjoy."
The Bunker covers about 19-thousand square feet. Karzmar worked on the project for nearly three years and says its something this area needed.
The simulators are affordable for anyone to use.
"$50 an hour to the public and that's per bay," said Karzmar. "Not per person. "If you come with a foursome...12.50 each and if your'e a member, we have a membership component, if you join the bunker for the year, you get at least $10 dollars off.
The Bunker is not just for adults.
"The simulators have a ton of games for kids," Karzmar said. "You hit a putt and it turns into a bowling ball, and dart games, all golf oriented or soccer, but a lot of fun for kids. I thought it was something the area needed as a golfer and someone who grew up in Boardman. Very proud to have this be part of the community, and I think it should be a win for everybody."
