BOARDMAN, Ohio - A SWAT team was called to help defuse a standoff at a Boardman Township motel late Wednesday.

Boardman Police say officers responded to a call about someone with medical issues at the Boardman Inn on Market Street just north of Route 224.

Police called in a negotiator after a man at the motel claimed he had a rifle.

After a few hours, police say the suspect broke a window and tried to climb out but got caught on the broken glass.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, is being treated for cuts on his arms and stomach.

Officers found no gun in the room but did find a woman there.

There’s no word yet on what charges could be filed.
