YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - An East Palestine man has pleaded guilty to vandalizing religious statues at a Youngstown church.

Twenty-year-old Caleb Vancampen entered the plea in Mahoning County Court on Monday.

He was charged in connection to the destruction of 16 sacred statues outside of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown one year ago.

Vancampen was accused of causing around $100,000 in damage to the statues around the church. Two granite statues and a light pole globe were also damaged.

Some of the statues appeared to be struck by bricks and others were decapitated.

Instead of being sent to prison, VanCampen has been ordered to take part in a one-to-five year intervention program that involves counseling and treatment.
