Ron Torbert never played football at the former South High School, but was a fan of the game.  Now 41 years after graduating, he'll be on football's biggest stage.

He's the referee for Super Bowl LVI between Cincinnati and the Los Angeles Rams.

Tolbert was not permitted to do media interviews, but the NFL did provide 21 Sports  with a video from Torbert.

In the video he  says, "I've been preparing for this moment for more than 30 years. Every game I've worked, every clinic, training camp, and practice that I've been a part of has helped get ready for this game."

Torbert has been an NFL official for 12 seasons and a referee for 8 years.

"I've been blessed to work with and be mentored by the very best officials in the world and I've learned something from each of them," he continued.

While Torbert will be "running" the game as the referee, it's just not the on field performance that's important.

"I've learned the importance of being a rules expert and also understanding how to apply the rules with common sense fairness and I've learned how to relate to coaches and parents," he continued.

Torbert knows the hard work and dedication will make him more than ready for the challenge.

"I am looking forward to putting all that preparation together and taking the field with the fantastic crew that I've been assigned to lead."

Super Bowl LVI is Sunday at 6:30 pm on 21 WFMJ  TV.
