COLUMBUS, Ohio -  An Austintown woman convicted of murdering her daughter 20 years ago will have to wait another ten years for her next parole hearing.

According to state records, a parole hearing for Sherry Delker has been continued until 2032.

Delker, who turned 47 earlier this month, was convicted of driving over her 6-year-old daughter, Samantha Mae Martin, in a church parking lot in Trumbull County on Good Friday 2002.

She was sentenced to life in prison on aggravated murder charges. Delker has served 19 years and 10 months of that sentence.

Shortly before Delker's recent parole hearing, Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins wrote an impassioned letter to the Ohio Adult Parole Authority saying Delker should not become a free woman.

"Delker's awkward cleverness in changing her story time and time again, or wrongfully projecting blame on others, makes it virtually impossible to determine the truth as to why she murdered her daughter on March 29, 2002," Watkins wrote. "But one thing is crystal clear, she murdered her daughter!"

"She takes no responsibility, has little or no remorse, and lives as if it didn't happen," he wrote. "It's all about her! Whether it is mental illness or personality traits, inmate Delker is truly on a stage when she talks to you or perhaps at you!

The letter concluded with Watkins painting an alarming picture of his fear for what could happen should Delker walk away freely.

"Sherry Delker is out of children but Ohio and America are not! I fear Inmate Delker in the future driving a car, and in front of her is someone's little 6-year-old girl or boy and her own inscrutable demons of Easter yesteryear return," he wrote. "God help us all. Preventable I hope. She's been safe and society has been safe for twenty years and the law allows the Parole Board to keep things just the way they are now in this case. Please deny Delker parole."

Delker is currently incarcerated at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville.
