Ohio's deer hunting season ended on Sunday with Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull Counties all checking thousands of deer since September.

Across archery, gun, muzzleloader and youth hunting seasons, the Mahoning Valley checked a total of 9,049 deer. Trumbull County ranked 10th in Ohio for deer harvested by county, with 3,994.

Ohio hunters harvested 196,988 deer during all seasons, higher than the state's three-year-average of 184,746.

Data shows that the buckeye state likes to hunt. Ohio has the fifth highest number of hunters in the United States. A higher number of workers are also associated with hunting, Ohio has the 11th most jobs related to the sport throughout the country.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife said hunting makes a positive impact on the state's economy too. Hunting generates more than $853 million in Ohio through the sale of equipment, fuel, food, and lodging.

There are no dates set for the 2022-23 deer hunting season yet, but last year's schedule was approved in April.
