New specialty care surgery office open in Cortland

In November of 2021, Trumbull Regional Medical Center expanded its robotic surgery services to the Cortland area.
Today, a ribbon cutting was held for the new specialty care surgery office at Steward Health Center Elm Road in Cortland for Dr. Pablo Giuseppucci, who is head of the robotic surgery program.
"It's about a $75,000 investment that we have made in insuring that we are elevating the services that we bring to the area," said Krista McFadden, President of Trumbull Regional Medical Center. "I think the goal of Steward has always been to bring high quality care to the region and the patients that we serve in Ohio and Pennsylvania."
Dr. Giuseppucci can use robotic surgery on simple hernia's to more complex abdominal wall reconstructions and even inter-abdominal tumors or bowel reconstructions.
"Give you more precision and controlling the shakes and doing exactly what the movements that you can do in open surgery for example but always through small 8mm incisions," Dr. Giuseppucci said. "The pain is less, the recovery is faster, the return to normal activities is faster."
And because the pain is less with robotic surgery, Dr. Giuseppucci says that has led to a decrease in narcotics prescriptions.
"Our prescription of narcotics has decreased 95%," Dr. Giuseppucci said. "We are only giving few and that is if needed. Most of the time we don't prescribe any narcotics anymore."
Dr. Giuseppucci also says there are less complications in general with robotic surgery.
His office is located at 2630 State Route 5, Building C in Cortland. You will need a referral from your general physician to see him about options for robotic surgery which takes place at Trumbull Regional Medical Center in Warren.
