Police investigating assault, attempted robbery at Family Dollar store in Warren

Warren police are investigating a robbery that took place in a Warren Family Dollar store late Wednesday afternoon.
Police were called to the store on West Market Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in regards to a customer who had allegedly assaulted an employee.
When police arrived, they spoke with the store's manager who stated that a Black male with dreadlocks walked into the store in an attempt to steal items.
The store manager told police that the male suspect attempted to push his way through an employee/victim and proceeded to flee the scene.
Upon reviewing surveillance camera footage, police observed the male entering the store wearing camouflage pants, a black jacket and a grey shirt and attempting to shoplift items.
Police say the video showed the victim trying to stop the suspect by obstructing his path and grabbing the bag the suspect was holding, resulting in the suspect pushing the victim back with his forearm and successfully bypassed her and fled the scene.
The victim was able to recover the suspect's bag and the suspect fled the scene by entering an unknown vehicle.
The store manager told police that the suspect was allegedly attempting to steal three boxes of garbage bags, two dish soaps and four laundry detergent containers totaling about $70 in value.
