New housing coming to Lowellville

Known for it's 'Baby Doll' dance, school, and tight-knit community of approximately 1,200 residents, Lowellville will add to that community with a new development.
A 1.2 acre lot surrounded by E. Walnut St, 1st St, McGill St, and E. Grant St, and also home to the old Lowellville three-through-12 school, and currently Old School park will be the site.
The Glavan Group of Columbus, an Architectural Consulting company, headed by Architect Jeffery Glavan, has developed the comprehensive plan and economic developed plan working with the village for the last two years.
"We purchased this land off the school board last year, we have about $83,000 invested in it, $33,000 went for title work and land acquisition costs, and the other $50,000 we paved the parking lots up by the school.", says Lowellville Mayor James Iudiciano.
The development will feature four villas, one on each corner, to go along with eight duplex-units.
"The four villas will be three bedrooms and the units will be two bedrooms at a price point of $187,000 for the two bedrooms, and $287,000 for the villas.", he adds.
The new project will not only bring new people to the village, but drive up traffic at local shops and restaurants
"Any new development coming to the village is beneficial for us as a business and for the village as a whole.", says Tammy Ross, manager of Ross' Market. "Any increase in population would be an increase in traffic so it would be a win for everyone.", she added.
It's part of a much larger effort to grow the village, in what Iudiciani calls a big investment.
"We paid all the legal fees but we see this as a big investment for the village, to get in $2.6 million for the 12 units."
The condo units will be gauged mainly for 55-and-older with the structures sitting on concrete pads, no basements, no steps.
"We're hoping you know some of the Lowellville people free up some of their houses and buy the condos and a young family could come in,but it's all about growing Lowellville.", he added.
This will also provide the school with a approximately $20,000 per year in property taxes.
Savko Home Builders, who have been commissioned to build the development, tell 21 news that if all goes well, the process will begin in late March or early April.
