LIBERTY, Ohio -
Liberty Police are crediting neighborhood help for alerting police to possible drug activity.
According to police, on Valentine's Day, the Liberty Police Department with the assistance of the Mahoning Valley Drug Task Force executed two searches. One took place on Euclide Avenue with consent. The other took place in the 2500 block of Cardinal Drive through the use of a search warrant.
Officials say both homes are connected to the investigation and as a result police seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, suboxone, drug paraphernalia, and tools used for trafficking drugs.
"It was the majority of the neighborhood that had enough, " said Captain Ray Buhala.
Charges though are pending.
"Sadly, they are not under arrest until we can verify it's the actual drug we suspect," said Buhala.
Charges could take months, as police await official analysis of the suspected drugs collected. The drugs are sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing. The time of return varies depending on BCI's case load.
Without the official analysis, if charges were pressed and a defendant were to exercise their right to a speedy trial, the state could potentially lose the case, explained Buhala.
In the meantime, the department plans to have a presence in the neighborhood.
Police are thanking neighbors for their support and remind residents "If you see something, say something."
All tips can be reported in a private Facebook message to the township, or by dialing their Tips Line 330-539-9830.
