MECCA TWP., Ohio - Flames destroyed a popular neighborhood hangout in Trumbull County on Wednesday.

Fire departments from several communities were dispatched Wednesday morning to a blaze reported at a business in Mecca Township.

A caller to Trumbull 9-1-1 reported flames in the back of the Lake Tavern on Route 46 shortly before 8 a.m.

Dispatchers were told soon after that flames were going through the roof of the business.

Photos shared on Facebook show heavy smoke and flames pouring from the log structure.

An hour later, the fire had left the business in ruins.

In addition to firefighters from Mecca, crews from Bazetta, Cortland, Bristol, Greene, Johnston, and the Youngstown Air Base were on the scene.

Firefighting efforts were hampered when it was discovered that hydrants around Mosquito Lake were frozen. Crews had to haul water from Cortland, which is five miles from the fire scene.

A water shuttle was set up involving firefighters from Burghill-Vernon, Gustavus, Brookfield, Kinsman, Fowler, Orangeville, and Bloomfield.

Route 46 is closed in the area while firefighting efforts continue.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.

According to the food and entertainment venue's website, the business was renovated and remodeled last year.
