YOUNGSTOWN - Ohio Edison says a circuit lockout caused power to go out to hundreds of homes and businesses in Austintown and Youngstown shortly before 8 a.m. Monday morning.

As of 8:30 a.m., the FirstEnergy website reported 1,035 outages in Austintown and 1,341 outages on Youngstown’s West Side.

Shortly before 9 a.m., First Energy reported that most of the power was back on in Youngstown.  997 outages were still reported in Austintown at 11 a.m.

By 11:45 a.m. on Friday, the First Energy website reported that power was restored to all but a few homes in Austintown. Power is expected to return to those remaining houses by 12:30 p.m.

Edison spokesperson Lauren Siburkus tells 21 News that a circuit lockout can be caused by several things including traffic accidents, tree branches, and animals coming in contact with power lines.
