PennDOT reminds motorists to avoid flooded roadways

OIL CITY, Pa. - In light of heavy rain continuing in Northwest Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is reminding motorists to never drive on flooded roadways.
Motorists are urged to be alert for water on roadways, obey traffic control devices and warning signs and never drive through flooding or standing water on roadways.
Shallow swiftly flowing water can wash a car off of the road. It takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car. Additionally, the roadbed may not be intact under the water.
Anyone who drives around barriers intending to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue a motorists disregarding traffic signs.
